Seriously though, update your chip-set and video drivers first, and DO try Windows 98/XP compatibility first, this is MUCH easier. If others wish to chime in with any missing bits of info or corrections (please cite references! Then I can re-learn too), feel free. Your system documentation or motherboard manual will have description(s) about this process, and about the execute-disable-bit options (or whatever it's called on AMD, I have a Ryzen system 3 years now THAT I BUILT and I've been in the BIOS less times than I have fingers). If you have a custom-built or purpose-built gaming machine it's usually F1 or DEL, or sometimes F12, but with OEM systems like HP/Compaq/Dell/Packard-Bell/Emachine/IBM-Lenovo/Toshiba etc it may be something entirely different. *Entering BIOS of your machine is entirely dependent on who created it or built it, and who made the motherboard. If running the game does not work when you disable the BIOS option for processor execute bit disable (what it was called on intel years ago), then go ahead back into BIOS and re-enable the option at your earliest convenience. The Windows Defender is actually pretty good but not if you derp out and click on websites you shouldn't or if you steal content/software through illicit means (not accusing you just being honest here). You NEVER want to be on the internet without at the very least having Windows virus scanner (Defender) enabled. THIS DOES NOT APPLY to the virus scanning in Windows, leave that on PLEASE. Please use extreme caution within your computer system's BIOS, don't change anything except for the processor virus protection (set to disable). You'll have to look up your processor and see what it is, or list the model of your system and let folks know if it's an AMD system (orange/black or red/black logo) or if it's got a little blue INTEL logo on it. While I'm not 100% on this, as my memory is getting a bit fuzzy now that I'm 40 and on a whole assortment of things to make like A LOT less painful (physically disabled), it's mostly on-target with the point I wanted to get across. Some old programs that were created BEFORE these processor standards came into being (10~15 years ago) have an issue with this. These processors work to defend against this by looking for code that tries to access sections of non-executable memory and access it. This can cause crashes if it overwrites things other programs need or possibly crash the system. A virus works by executing sections of memory that aren't executable and aren't always assigned to 'it'. If everything else fails, go into your computer's BIOS and turn off the in-built virus protection that's inherent on all modern processors. If you still feel comfortable modifying the BIOS setting for the correct option and only the correct option, then click the black words so they show up. If you do NOT feel comfortable here, DO NOT continue into the part about changing a setting in BIOS as this COULD make your computer go belly-up until you figure out how to reset BIOS if you change the wrong thing. If it does, that is OK, as most people won't understand it. The next part about BIOS may go over your head if you aren't well-versed in PC hardware, building, and configuring. PLEASE UPDATE TO WINDOWS 7 OR USE XP/WIN-98 COMPATIBILITY MODE OR MANUALLY BROWSE TO THE GAME INSTALL FOLDER AND HOLD CTRL+SHIFT AND THEN CLICK ON BEJEWELED3.EXE TO RUN IT AS ADMINISTRATOR. WINDOWS NT 6.x IS WINDOWS VISTA, WINDOWS VISTA IS NOT WELL-LOVED AMONG GAMING FOLKS NOR IS IT RENOWNED FOR IT'S COMPATIBILITY WITH OLDER APPS.
